This bi-annual auction of mid-century modern will showcase a collection of modernist jewelry including pieces by Sam Kramer and a collection of works by Art Smith. From a single original owner and never before been on the market, the works by Smith attest to his mastery of metal working. Works by Harry Bertoia and a selection of designs for Memphis by Ettore Sottsass, Peter Shire and Michele de Lucci will also be featured alongside other noteworthy Italian, French and American designs.

Safety is an instinctive need that has guided human choices throughout history. Now more than ever, it has become not only a focus, but almost an obsession. Designers are trained to mediate between disruptive change and normalcy and can soothe people’s anxiety. When scientific revolutions happen, they translate them into objects that people can understand and use. Good design provides protection and security without sacrificing the need to innovate and invent. This book and the exhibition that it accompanies document the unique objects that designers have created to answer people’s needs, both physical and psychological. Physical objects include shelters for victims of disasters and homeless people, hideaway furniture, and personal armor and protective gear, while psychological objects include those that thwart identity theft, offer self-defense, and provide comforting reassurance. The objects presented here reflect how good design goes hand-in-hand with personal needs. This book includes an introductory essay by Paola Antonelli, Curator in the Department of Architecture and Design at The Museum of Modern Art in New York; an essay by Phil Patton on cars; another by Marie O’Mahony on materials and technologies; and a third by Cameron Sinclair on design for refugees and third-world facilities. Another development in the increased role auction houses are beginning to play in promoting the next wave of design talent: Sotheby’s is now taking an interest in selling work produced by newly emerging designers. To do so, they have teamed up with—who else—the Design Academy Eindhoven to sell work produced by several of last year’s top graduates. The work from Eindhoven will be presented at Sotheby’s London between May 14 and 18, 2010 after a stop at the Milan Furniture Fair.

The team at Atelier Tekuto has designed a home from a dissection of a white volume. Located near the center of Tokyo, the complex architectural dwelling, although intricate in its angular play, has a serene and simple nature to it.  The house exterior is stretched over a sea of unique planes in white finish. Utilizing elimination as part of the creative process, Atelier Tekuto pondered on the keywords of ‘minerals’ and ‘reflection’ to focus the dissection as a positive influence to the project.  The dwelling’s abstract form capitalizes on the idea that there is not one space alike, therefore strengthening the narrative to the natural minerals.

French designer Eric Jourdan has designed a range of seating for French design brand Ligne Roset. Called Harry, the collection includes a sofa and armchair with deep seats and high rounded backrests. The designs are available with either straight metal legs or a bent tubular metal base. This design creation is a surprise coming as it does from Eric Jourdan and from Ligne Roset : ‘Harry’ is the most hybrid and bold piece of the new Roset collection. It is contemporary and classic, as switched-on as it is old-hat and yet beautiful – so much so that you don’t know what to think about its origins. Starting from an archetype of à la française style furniture reassessed by Jourdan’s eye, the French maker has produced a range that is authentically undatable, somewhere between 1940 and 2010, as offbeat as vodka & tonic served in Limoges porcelain.

On a hillside overlooking Beverly Hills is a house that “vibrates with the love that created it,” says its owner, actress Jennifer Aniston.“I want to say this just right,” she muses. “I am so proud of this house. And I want to celebrate the people who made it: the master craftsmen who poured so much of themselves into its creation.” Not the least of these is designer Stephen Shadley, who worked with her on the project for nearly two and a half years. “I’ll be lucky if I ever do anything with this kind of team and freedom again,” raves the designer. “It was a project without a problem.” The designer has collaborated with Diane Keaton on two of her residences in Southern California and one in Arizona and with Woody Allen on the interiors of his apartment in New York City. He and Aniston had come close to working together on two other residences.

London designer Mathias Hahn has designed a pendant lamp that clamps to its own flex, which is now in production with French brand Ligne Roset. Made from spun aluminium and glass, the lamps of the LANTERN series operate within a typological framework, which finds its place somewhere between a floor lamp and a pendant lamp. By means of a clamp mechanism situated inside the lamps, they can be adjusted in height between floor and ceiling, moving it along the cord. With this in mind, the cable is, unusually, fed through the centre of the lamp. The configuration of lamp shade and cable utilises the geometry of the production processes and puts the traditional materiality into a new aesthetic and functional context.

A warm, intimate interior greets you from the glass street scape as you enter Piatra Neamt’s noir restaurant.  Located in northeast Romania, Piatra Neamt is a city surrounded by mountains of forrest, which you will soon begin to understand how the landscape’s beauty seeped into the interior space.  The design team at Nuca, composed by Robert Marin, Ramona Macarie and Mirela Nitu utilized wood for it’s warmth and relation to the surrounding topography.  Rather than just wood tables, wood flooring and wood wall panels, the palette is broken and accentuated through sculpture, lighting and contrasting textures.

“The Fundamentals of Interior Design” takes the subject of interior design and explains the essential concepts in a logical and sensible way by looking at the process of design, from first contact with a client, to presentation of the finished design work and beyond. Suppose Design recently finished a family house In Obama, in the Fukui prefecture on the sea of Japan. The site, situated near the beach, posed climatic problems such as damage from the sea breeze.  The client – the director of a clinic opposite the house – wished to combine openness on the ground floor to allow for parking spaces for his clients with more protected first floor living spaces.

Over the years the Vitra Campus has become an architecture museum, featuring works by the most renowned architects: Frank Ghery, Zaha Hadid, Alvaro Siza, Tadao Ando, Jean Pruvé, Nicholas Grimshaw, Buckminster Fuller and SANAA (under construction). The latest addition to the complex is the VitraHaus building, a series of stacked pitched-roof boxed, designed by Herzog & de Meuron for Vitra’s Home Collection. In January 2004, Vitra launched its Home Collection, which includes design classics as well as re-editions and products by contemporary designers. As a company whose previous activity was primarily focused on office furnishings and business clients, Vitra created the Home Collection with a new target group in mind: individual customers with an interest in design.

Three steps and we’re ready to eat! Yes, you’re reading Yatzer and not Martha Stewart, and this ain’t a cooking lesson, but in three simple steps you will have assembled the Pi dinning table which was designed by Roderick Fry.  Fry, wanted to create a simple, affordable and stable dinning table as his former dinning table (designed and manufactured by a large consumer brand), was “insulted for its instability” by a friend of his who happens to be a designer.

Hong Kong designer Michael Young will launch a swivelling tub chair for Swedish design brand Swedese at the Stockholm Furniture Fair. Called Avalon, the upholstered chair is meant for use in contract furnishing and also comes in a static version. “Avalon was created as nod towards the man that first inspired me to become a designer, Vernor Panton,” says Michael Young. “I felt that there had not been a great deal of evolution in the big soft upholstered tub chair sector recently, certainly non that swivel and as ever I like to design things that I could have in my own home. It’s a serious contract piece suitable for airports and hotels alike. It is also the only one-piece injection chair produced in Sweden in the last 25 years and a serious commitment to the vision of longevity.”

The design of lingerie is often seen as a mystery, even by professionals working in other sectors of the fashion industry. This book aims to explain the processes at work and the many unexpected influences that shape the colour, silhouettes and decoration. The book will document the rise of the deluxe lingerie brand. This interest in luxury labels has led many young designers to chose lingerie as a creative outlet conscious of fashion, but also with a clear view of their own lingerie world. The book features the work of 30 lingerie designers from around the world, bringing out the individuality of each designer and providing a compelling insight into their working methods. Beautifully illustrated throughout, it presents inspirational images from the designers collections alongside their sketches and mood boards.

Sauerbruch Hutton is a practice founded by Matthias Sauerbruch and Louisa Hutton with its main offices in Berlin and London. Active as an independent concern for upwards of twenty years, they have developed a personal language that is essentially characterised by two evident features: the free, sinuous forms of some of their buildings and a bold, emphatic use of colour. Having said that, subtending these obvious characteristics are other no less important ones that are in some way derived from the first ones. We are referring to their wish to create a sense of place, whatever the situation, be it in an urban centre or in a rundown industrial area on the outskirts. Their buildings are gestures on an urban scale that resolve the programme of needs defined by the client and establish a dialogue with the location.

Swedish company Wästberg present an LED desk lamp by French designer Inga Sempé at the Stockholm Furniture Fair. Called Sempé w103, it features a hand-spun aluminium shade supported by a thin steel tube, attached to a clamp or cast base. This elementary lamp is meant to be as simple and solid as a nail or a push pin. As with traditional tool machine lighting, the mechanics are sturdy and long-lasting, with the aim of improving classical industrial elements: the clamp is inverted to offer a better way of using it. The lamp mixes solidity and lightness: a thin beam joins the two opposite pieces of the lamp: the heavy cast foot to a delicate shade. Its silhouette and its various positions bring to mind a small umbrella.

Once upon a time some people decided to get a handle on their own future. They wanted to reducing their ecological footprint to the minimum, so in the course of the teens decade they introduced into everyday habitat efficient means for producing energy and reducing energy consumption, and for managing wastes. Concepts of industrial symbiosis had been in everyone’s mind for some time, but the big thing was to apply them effectively in the home. Working in closed cycle mode, they felt that each waste should be turned into a new resource, that each drop of water that fell on the roof or came from a tap should be used to the utmost instead of going straight down the drain, that each watt of wind and solar power produced by the house should be valorized on the spot. Little by little, the home of ‘Mr & Mrs Smith’, which had formerly been powered exclusively by fossil energies: coal, petroleum derivatives, gas… was becoming self-sufficient.

The different functions dependent on consumption of an immaterial energy such as electricity were upgraded to hybrid input of power sources. Wastes, which had once been evacuated and incinerated at considerable expense by the community, generating untold tons of ash and toxic gases harmful to the environment, were made subject to taxation by weight, which encouraged people to be more careful. People who were once just consumers became ‘consum’actors’, committed to changing their behaviour patterns and adopt eco-friendly habits. Once the means of taking immediate action were put within their reach, they seized hold of them and began changing things around, inventing new user protocols and spreading the good news.

A portfóliók regisztrációjának egyszeri költsége van, mely 7.000 Ft + áfa. A portfóliók frissítésének (cseréjének) adminisztrációs költsége 5.000 Ft + áfa / alkalom.

Jelentkezők köre

A Hellodesign PRO tagság megszerzésére azok jelentkezhetnek, akik legalább jó eredménnyel végeztek 2005-nél nem régebben valamely hazai vagy külföldi akkreditált építészet, ipar- vagy képzőművészet területén tevékenykedő felsőfokú oktatási intézményben.

3. Jelentkezési határidő nincs, a jelentkezésre folyamatosan biztosítjuk a lehetőséget.

4. A jelentkezési anyagod beérkezését követően kiküldött számla alapján fizesd be banki utalással a jelentkezés 7.000 Ft + áfa összegű díját a Hellodesign Bt. bankszámlaszámára (10403181-00015770-00000004). A jelentkezési díj befizetésének elmulasztása esetén a jelentkezés érvénytelenné válik.

Tervezői portfólió követelményei és javaslatai

Formai követelmények:
- PDF formátum
- képek felbontása minimum 150, maximum 300 dpi

Formai javaslatok:
- A/4-es álló méret a monitoron való optimális megjelenés és a nyomtathatóság érdekében
- magyar és angol nyelvű szövegezés

Javasolt tartalmi elemek:
1. bemutatkozás: a jelentkező szöveges bemutatkozása 1 oldal terjedelemben
2. szakmai önéletrajz: a jelentkező szakmai önéletrajza 1 oldal terjedelemben
3. referenciák: a portfóliótárban legalább 5, legfeljebb 10 referenciamunka bemutatása ajánlott. A referenciák legalább felének érdemes megvalósult munkának lennie. Referenciákként legalább 5 darab illusztráció (fotó, rajz, látványterv vagy tervrajz) bemutatása ajánlott. A referenciák bemutatásánál javasolt feltüntetni a munka megnevezését, a tervezés évét, megvalósított terv esetében a megvalósulás évét, a munka fellelhetőségét (települést), a munka rövid szövege bemutatását, a munkatársak nevét, fotók esetében a fényképész nevét.

Tartalmi megkötés: szakmai referenciák között kizárólag olyan munkák mutathatók be, melyben a jelentkező kizárólagos vagy főmunkatársként vett részt.

A portfóliókban megjelenített anyagok eredetéért és jogtisztaságáért mindennemű felelősség a jelentkezőt terheli. Valótlan adatok és/vagy nem jogtiszta képek megjelentetése 2 éves kizárást von maga után.

Felvétel, megjelenítés

A kiírás követelményeinek megfelelő portfóliókat az első 20 portfólió beérkezésétől kezdődően folyamatosan, az elfogadástól számított 8 munkanapon belül jelenítjük meg a Hellodesign.hu PORTFÓLIÓK aloldalán. A jelentkezés elfogadásáról, elutasításáról, szükség esetén hiánypótlásról valamint tervezői portfólió megjelenítéséről a jelentkezőknek illetve a tagoknak e-mailben értesítést küldünk.

Segítség a portfólió elkészítéséhez

A portfólió elkészítése időt és odafigyelést igénylő folyamat, de megéri a fáradozást, hiszen ez alapján ítéli meg a tervező munkásságát a szakma és ez alapján nyerhet meg magának ügyfeleket. A tervezői portfólió felépítéséhez és összeállításához készítettünk egy mintát, mely innen letölthető illetve digitális változata itt megtekinthető.

Amennyiben nem tud, vagy nem kíván a portfólió összeállításával foglalkozni, ám minden igényt kielégítő bemutatkozással szeretne megjelenni úgy a rendelkezésre bocsájtott anyagokból munkatársaink elkészítik Önnek a komplett portfólióját.

A komplett portfólió készítés díja: 90.000 Ft + áfa, mely magába foglalja:

A HELLODESIGN.HU egy új szemléletű, virtuális információs központ, ahol belsőépítészettel, enteriőr tervezéssel kapcsolatos magas színvonalú, naprakész termék és szolgáltatás információk rendezett és rendszerezett módon, könnyen kezelhető formában érhetők el mind a civil, mint a professzionális felhasználók számára. A központ lelke egy nagy kapacitású digitális katalógustár, ahol folyamatosan növekvő mennyiségű termékkatalógus áll a felhasználók rendelkezésére. A nagy adatmennyiség elérése az átgondolt struktúrának köszönhetően szokatlanul kézenfekvő és könnyű. Az információk sajátos, extra funkciókkal felruházott, rendkívül egyszerűen és eredményesen használható digitális formában kerülnek bemutatásra. A PDF alapú digitális katalógusok biztosítják az információk könnyű bevitelét és egyszerű frissen tartását. A részvevők által is szerkesztett, naprakész on-line szakmai eseménynaptár, a nemzetközi információkat és hazai szakmai híreket tartalmazó design blog valamint a hazai szaklapok digitális bemutató illetve archív számainak hozzáférhetősége teljes körű információáramlást biztosít a forgalmazók, tervezők, kiadók és civilek között, elősegítve a sikeres üzleti kapcsolatok létrejöttét.

A 2007-ben katalógustárral és eseménynaptárral elindított információs központ kezdetektől megfogalmazott célja a teljes körű szakmai információtár létrehozása. Az on-line rendszer úgy lett megtervezve, előkészítve és kialakítva, hogy a további modulok szervesen illeszthetőek legyenek a struktúrába. 2009. I. negyedévében bevezetésre került az OLVASNIVALÓK modul, mely szaklapoknak, szakkönyveknek és alkalmi kiadványoknak biztosít bemutatkozási lehetőséget. A naprakész információk biztosítása érdekében 2009.
