ASUS laptop design by Bang & Olufsen

Posted in 09. Technology by Hellodesign on January 14, 2010

It seems ASUS has been spending some time with Bang & Olufsen’s Chief designer to create a heck of a laptop. There’s no denying this is one sleek looking lappie with a polished aluminum exterior, but it’s got some pretty cool tricks too — including dual touchpads that supposedly gives you a DJ turntable-like experience. The high-def, 18.4-inch display is flanked by B&O ICEpower speakers and is clearly meant to live in your living room. It’s not all looks here, though. It’s got a Core i7 processor, NVIDIA GeForce GT 334M graphics, support for up to 1280GB of storage (with dual drives), a slot-in Blu-ray drive and USB 3.0. We’ve got no idea what this thing is going to cost ya, but we’re hoping to dig up some details and get a hands-on look so stay tuned.

Will you read me? The Mag+ concept

Posted in 09. Technology by Hellodesign on January 11, 2010

There is nothing permanent except change – a variant translation of Heraclitus, a Greek philosopher known for his doctrine of change being central to the universe.  In no other time in history, has change been so fast, so organic, and at times so natural in our hectic, hyper- lives.  This phrase kept bouncing inside me as I watched a video of the new prototype Mag+, a new digital magazine concept by multi-channel media giant Bonnier in collaboration with Berg, a design consultancy out of London.

Skiff e-reader

Posted in 09. Technology by Hellodesign on January 5, 2010

The Skiff reader is a new e-reader device that aims to attract attention not for its feature set, but its size. The device is ultra thin and has an 11.5 inch touch screen display that dwarfs even its biggest competitors. The design is ideally suited for magazine and newspaper content that was truncated to fit the screens of smaller devices. However the skiff has a lot going for it besides its screen size, it also has 4 GB of storage, wifi and 3G capability. The device can also be used to listen to music or audiobooks and comes with a sleek magnesium casing. The Skiff’s newspaper capability comes as no surprise since the device and its accompanying service is partly being developed by the newspaper publisher hearst. The company plans to use it to sell digital subscriptions to newspapers and magazines.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Pureness

Posted in 09. Technology by Hellodesign on November 26, 2009

Sony Ericsson has just released their much anticipated Xperia pureness mobile, with its unique see-through screen. The pureness features an opaque black keypad and a contrasting 1.8” display, which is almost completely transparent thanks to its glass blacking. While the design is definitely unique in the mobile market, early reviews have criticized the phone’s display for it impracticality. The phone will be released in limited markets being sold at fashion retailers such as sak’s and collette.

It was a great idea then, and it’s a great idea now. The all-in-one design of the first flat-panel iMac cleaned up the desktop. It put everything you need — display, processor, graphics card, hard drive, optical drive, memory, and more — inside one simple enclosure. New technology inside and out makes the new iMac a worthy addition to the all-in-one dynasty.

A mere 1.08 inches thin and even lighter at 4.7 pounds,1 the sleek new MacBook cuts a slim profile on any desk (or in any backpack or briefcase). It features a new seamless, more durable unibody enclosure with rounded contours that make it easy to pick up and slide into and out of your bag. And it’s made of rugged polycarbonate that withstands the rough and tumble of everyday life — at school, at work, or while traveling. Even the bottom of the new MacBook feels different. Covering its entire surface is a nonslip material that keeps your MacBook right where you put it, whether on a desk, table, or airplane tray.

It began with iPhone. Then came iPod touch. Then MacBook Pro. Intuitive, smart, dynamic. Multi-Touch technology introduced a remarkably better way to interact with your portable devices — all using gestures. Now we’ve reached another milestone by bringing gestures to the desktop with a mouse that’s unlike anything ever before. It’s called Magic Mouse. It’s the world’s first Multi-Touch mouse. And while it comes standard with every new iMac, you can also add it to any Bluetooth-enabled Mac for a Multi-Touch makeover.
