The Singapore Design Festival theme, “Design2050: Possibilities for Tomorrow,” serves as a call to action for designers to consider how design can improve lives and create possibilities

The biennial Singapore Design Festival will take flight from 20 to 30 November 2009 with a wide range of design events and activities for designers, businesses and consumers. The activities span a broad spectrum of disciplines and the Festival serves as a good platform where participants can meet like-minded individuals, explore and exchange ideas as well as celebrate the best that the industry has to offer.

Presented by the DesignSingapore Council and more than 60 partners, this year’s Festival will bring significant dimension and flavour from Singapore alongside international presentations from Australia, Denmark, the European Union, Italy, Japan, Korea, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. The interactive and engaging presentations will also serve as invaluable input and inspiration for generations of future designers to come. (more…)

Dutch Design Week: 17/25 October 2009, Eindhoven

From 17 through 25 October 2009, Dutch Design Week (DDW) will for the eighth time be the platform for both up-and-coming and established designers. DDW has over the years developed into the largest design event in the Netherlands. With 60 locations, 263 events, and around 80,000 visitors in 2008, Eindhoven will for one week turn into a jungle of design activities. Milano design-in-the-city, conceived, coordinated and promoted by DesignPartners (organizer, among other activities, of ZonaTortona Design, DesignLibrary – in Milan, Shanghai and Istanbul, That’s Design!, Surfacin’-materials innovation, statuStories, IDW-Istanbul Design Weekend and DesignItalia) will be an event dedicated to product design that will make Milan protagonist between showroom circuits, cultural initiatives and entertainment activities. The four day event will be an excellent occasion to purchase new products that were presented during the Milan design week in April and discover product previews. The best design, exhibited in unique set ups and available for purchase.

Pioneers of Change – Dutch Design Festival New York

Pioneers of Change is a festival of Dutch design, fashion and architecture on New York’s Governors Island. The event is conceived and curated by Renny Ramakers, co-founder and director of Droog, as part of the ny400 week celebrations, commemorating the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the Dutch to New York. The festival highlights a more responsible and sustainable approach to living by celebrating the blurring of low- and high-brow, establishing new collaborations, encouraging  involvement, emphasizing sustainability and valuing handcraft and the local context. Over the course of two long weekends from September 11 through September 20, pioneers of change will showcase a modern interpretation on Dutch art and design. The exhibit will utilize several former officers’ houses in Nolan Park on Governors Island, where visitors can enjoy the festival.

SOFIA DESIGN WEEK is the first of a kind design festival in Bulgaria. Between June 5th and June 12th Sofia will be transformed into a vibrant capital of design. In its first issue, SOFIA DESIGN WEEK is welcoming some of the most avant-garde international names in the contemporary product, communication, interactive and graphic design. Sofia Design Weeks aims to place our city on the global map of design. Through discussions and experience exchange, it will also seek the next identity in our visual environment, one that is urgently needed.
