Wright Modern Design Auction 23 March 2010
This bi-annual auction of mid-century modern will showcase a collection of modernist jewelry including pieces by Sam Kramer and a collection of works by Art Smith. From a single original owner and never before been on the market, the works by Smith attest to his mastery of metal working. Works by Harry Bertoia and a selection of designs for Memphis by Ettore Sottsass, Peter Shire and Michele de Lucci will also be featured alongside other noteworthy Italian, French and American designs.

Sotheby’s meets Design Academy Eindhoven
Another development in the increased role auction houses are beginning to play in promoting the next wave of design talent: Sotheby’s is now taking an interest in selling work produced by newly emerging designers. To do so, they have teamed up with—who else—the Design Academy Eindhoven to sell work produced by several of last year’s top graduates. The work from Eindhoven will be presented at Sotheby’s London between May 14 and 18, 2010 after a stop at the Milan Furniture Fair.

Út a sikerhez – A Moholy-Nagy László Formatervezési és a Kozma Lajos Iparművészeti ösztöndíjasok 2009. évi beszámoló kiállítása
2010. február 4-én beszámoló kiállítás nyílik a húszéves Moholy-Nagy László Formatervezési és a Kozma Lajos Kézműves Iparművészeti ösztöndíjasok munkáiból az Iparművészeti Múzeumban. A formatervezés, a design kitüntetett szerepet tölt be mindennapjainkban. A tetszetős forma, a párját ritkító műszaki tartalom azonban csak akkor hasznosulhat társadalmi szinten is, ha a felhasználó igényei, a gyártó üzleti érdekei és az alkotó elképzelései egybecsengenek, és a tervek valóban piacképes termékké válnak. Ennek megvalósulásában nyújt komoly segítséget a Moholy-Nagy László Formatervezési Ösztöndíj, amely évente 15 fiatal tehetség pályájának indulását, szakmai kiteljesedését és önálló alkotói munkáját hivatott támogatni. Zaha Hadid retrospective at Palazzo della Ragione
I guess Zaha Hadid is the architect who we can’t get enough of; every single work which she creates amazes us and has the world talking about it! Whether she’s designing architecture, industrial design, or fashion, the 2004 Pritzker Prize winner has wowed us with all of her designs which have been presented throughout her career. Luckily, as of October 27, 2009 a major retrospective of the works of Zaha Hadid Architects will be displayed at salone of Palazzo della Ragione, Padua, Italy. So if you ever wanted to see all of her works in one venue now is the time as all architectural, industrial and fashion designs will be on display until March 1, 2010. The exhibition examines Hadid’s sustained experimentation and research into digital design and construction methods at the cutting edge of the industry.

A Werk Akadémia tavaly szeptemberben indította el enteriőrstylist képzését. A szak elismertségét jelzi, hogy idén az Akadémia a Lakástrend 2010 kiemelt szakmai partnere lesz. Ennek szellemében enteriőrstylist szakos hallgatóink kivitelezik a Műcsarnok apszisában megvalósítandó TRENDFORUM enteriőrjeit (trendszigetek). Winners of The Great Indoors Awards 2009
The Great Indoors is a competition where the best Interior Design concepts are exposed to the public. TGI takes place every two years and it’s much more than prizes; it is a design fiesta where lectures and workshops are organized in an attempt to promote and highlight the importance of Interior Design. Time to design – new talent award 2009
Time to design – new talent award is an international design award with focus on the needs of young design talents in the beginning of their career. The award consists of three months residency at the National Workshops for Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen, 50.000 DKK donated by the Cultural Ministry of Denmark, two weeks exhibition in Normann Copenhagen Flagship Store and career coaching.
To a design talent the combination of a residency at the National Workshops and an exhibition at Normann Copenhagen makes up an opportunity to become absorbed in the work amidst competent guidance and professional facilities at the workshops, – and subsequently showing the result in an attractive showroom.
In 2009 the jury consisted of the three designers Thomas Benzen, Mathilde Aggebo and Dorte Østergaard Jakobsen, as well as Frederik Hardvendel, director at the National Workshops, Poul Madsen, CEO Normann Copenhagen and Ida Marie Nissen, architect and co-founder of Link UP.
The award was established in 2008 and is based on cooperation between the National Workshops for Arts and Crafts, Norman Copenhagen and Link UP. In 2010 there will be a new chance for a design talent to develop a professional career through Time to design.

Citly of Helsinki appointed World Design Capital 2012
The International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid) announced today, that the appointment of World Design Capital™ (WDC) 2012 has been conferred to the City of Helsinki (Finland). Announced during the closing ceremony of the Icsid World Design Congress in Singapore, Helsinki will move on to be the third city to hold the biennial designation in 2012. (more…)
