White – book by Kenya Hara

White is not a book about colours, but Kenya Hara’s exploration of the very essence of White, which he sees as closely connected to the origin of Japanese aesthetics – symbolising simplicity and subtlety. The central concepts discussed are emptiness and the absolute void. Kenya Hara sees his work as a designer as a form of communication. Good communication requires the ability to listen to one another, rather than press one’s own opinion onto an opponent. This book follows on from the bestselling Designing Design by Kenya Hara, and is an important text on Japanese design philosophy which deserves broad readership.
Highly recommended.
