British designer Charlotte Kingsnorth has created the ‘Felt Up’ chair. Cut and folded in two places, a flat piece of felt has created a new space. When sat upon it cocoons the occupier, lulling them into a state of relaxation. The felt is 16mm thick and made from 100% natural wool. It acts as a natural insulator from noise, which helps further to create a chilled space in which to sit.

Kossi_Aguessy_interview

It’s amazing to see people around you who actually knew what they wanted to do in their lives a year or two after taking their first steps and were driven by an inner passion!  Such is the case of Kossi Aguessy.  Of course you’ll tell me that we all made drawings and we all made things with our hands, but very few of us made models of the Egyptian pyramids to building scaled machines!  Aguessy always wanted to create things with his hands.

A journey over water: Constructed entirely on one level for lifetime access, the house and carport are a single composition of eight pavilions connected across the burn by the broad footbridge overlooking the dam, waterfall and burn – sometimes a raging torrent, others a calm trickle. To the southerly dam, the house presents a monolithic façade with cut-out windows positioned to take in the views and sunlight yet control privacy from the road. To the northwest, the house opens up with a continuous series of five glazed gable corners onto a wide westerly terrace that embraces the open rural landscape.

Knut Hamsun Center by Steven Holl Architect

Posted in 03. Architecture by Hellodesign on August 11, 2009

Hamsunsenteret under construction, 18.july 09

This center dedicated to Hamsun is located above the Arctic Circle near village of Presteid of Hamarøy and the farm where the writer grew up. The museum will include exhibition areas, a library and reading room, a cafe and an auditorium. The concept for the museum is “building as a body,” creating a battleground of invisible forces. The tarred black wood exterior skin is characteristic of the great wooden stave Norse churches. The spine of the building body is the central elevator, providing handicapped and freight access to all parts of the building. At the roof garden the long grass reflects the traditional Norwegian sod roofs in a different way. Strange, surprising and phenomenal experiences in space perspective and light will provide an inspiring frame for the exhibitions.
