40 Winks Hotel by David Carter

We have just received images of David Carter’s newest concept – smallest boutique hotel in London named 40 Winks. Carter’s restored four- story Queen Anne Townhouse was built in 1717, and is situated in East London. The hotel has just two bijou guest bedrooms furnished with an eclectic mix of old and new.

La Cantine de la Ménagerie de Verre by Matali Crasset

French designer Matali Crasset has completed the reception area and canteen of arts venue Ménagerie de Verre in Paris, France. Crasset designed solid-birch tables and chairs for the space as well as low, upholstered seating. Inspired by the trestle, each table and chair consists of a folding structure supporting a shell. All furniture can be removed to allocated storage areas, freeing up space for events.

Stone Towers by Zaha Hadid Architects in Cairo

The Stone Towers by Zaha Hadid Architects for Rooya Group of Egypt is located in the Stone Park district of Cairo. Providing office and retail facilities to a rapidly expanding Cairo, the unique 525,000sqm Stone Towers development also includes a five-star business hotel with serviced apartments, retail with food and beverage facilities and sunken landscaped gardens and plaza called the ‘Delta’. Hisham Shokri, CEO of Rooya Group said “There is a overwhelming need in Egypt for developments of the highest international standards required by the serious and growing investment climate of the country – ultimately contributing to making it a hub for multinationals in the region. The Stone Towers needed an architect with daring ideas, innovation, international expertise and experience … it needed Zaha Hadid.”

GKK Dental Ambulatory by x Architekten

The relocation of various businesses from the Voestalpine steel manufacturer’s premises included the dental clinic of the Upper Austrian regional medical insurance company. The nearby “Service Zone” was chosen as the new location. The task was to create a modern and service-oriented clinic on a 525 sqm plot which offers the dentists the best possible hygiene and functionality at work and which receives and guides the patients.

Dario Cottone’s Ribbon Unites Caltanissetta

Under the direction of architect Dario Cottone, the young Italian firm recently won an international competition in the historical center of Caltanissetta, Sicily.  Cottone’s project focuses on a red ribbon that aims to link the older historic parts of the 16,000 square meter site with the emerging contemporary areas.

Zound Systems and their concept furniture

Syros is a beautiful Greek island that, apart from its numerous beaches and interesting sightseeings, is hiding more attractions for the design curious traveller. Zaxos Stathopoulos is the leading brain behind zound systems, a creative initiative that is trying to generate its own visual vocabulary on contemporary furniture. Not being afraid of using concepts neither bold application of colour, zound systems recycle and reinvent ideas and materials in order to create the elements of a particular universe. In their case, it is a universe full of arty creations, with strong personality and stories to tell. Investigating and inspired by concepts like atavism, metabolism, raw data, fabela architecture, waste and biosphere principles, they create objects that, as they point out, carry messages, answers and evidence for a secret tale written for a single reader. It comes of no surprise then that one can find in zound systems’ world from ideal creations for dark princes till furniture that even seems alive. New Conductive Fiber complexes nano-size metallic fine particles into a fiber and raises conductivity by reducing the distance between particles and broadening the conductive area. Also, because it has conductive function inside its fibers, the material is able to prevent a decline in conductivity due to flexing, friction, and salt corrosion, the conventional issues related to conductive fibers, and can enlarge the applicable area.
