The New York High Line officially open
In May 2003, James Corner Field Operations with Diller Scofidio + Renfro competed against 720 teams from 36 countries to win the infrastructure conversion project of the New York City High Line. More than half a decade later, the High Line’s transition to a public park is almost complete. On June 8th, architects, elected officials, and advocates watched as Mayor Michael Bloomberg cut the ceremonial red ribbon, officially announcing the opening of the first of three sections. The new park offers an alluring break from the chaotic city streets as users have an opportunity to experience an elevated space with uninterrupted views of the Hudson River and the city skyline.

MYKITA opens shop in Vienna

MYKITA’s second flagship store is located in the heart of Vienna, on the famous Neuer Markt square and right next to the “Le Bol” café – between Kärtner Strasse, St. Stephen’s cathedral and the Sacher Hotel. The store is a specialist eyewear retailer and stocks all MYKITA sunglasses and prescription frames. The product offer is supplemented by a selection of models from other brands. A special highlight for autumn/winter 2009 is the limited-edition MYKITA collection developed in cooperation with fashion designer Bernhard Willhelm.v Vienna, often called the “Gateway to the East” and one of Europe’s cultural capitals, was not a random choice as the location for the second MYKITA store. The city has always been a hive of creativity and continues to enjoy a flourishing population of small-scale traders and craftsmen. As a result, Vienna is still home to a plethora of authentic old stores selling products that are hand-made – just like MYKITA glasses. Furthermore, the city is a hugely popular tourist destination.

Outpost by OSKA Architects

Set in the remote and harsh high desert landscape of Idaho, Outpost is a residence and studio/workshop for making and displaying art. An important aspect of the complex is the protected “paradise garden,” which is separated from the wild landscape by thick concrete walls. The materials used in the structure, including concrete block, car-decking, and plywood, require little or no maintenance, and are capable of withstanding the extreme weather that characterize the desert’s four seasons.
