The lot is located at the foot of a hill where the fields and houses are mixed together. The client’s desire was “to live while feeling nature without being bothered by looks from the neighbors”. To make the best use of the lot, the planning was designed to enclose the lot with the trench extended beyond the building, and to provide an interior courtyard as the center.

The idea of situating and relating a series of objects in the landscape- Dwelling, Chapel, Hunting pavilion and Guard´s residence- gave the project a dual significance: in addition to the close relationship between landscape, objects and itinerary -between space and objects-, each item had to provide a different response with different emphasis, from the most symbolic to the most silent or private. The unifying thread was to be the concept of the fold: the fold as a hidden generator of different spaces.

Modular Seating by Marina Bautier

Posted in Furniture by Hellodesign on May 4, 2009

Belgian designer Marina Bautier has created a modular seating system. The basic element of the flexible seating system is the bridge shaped leg. The repetition of the oak legs creates a regular rhythm that expresses the modula-rity of the project. The thin padded seats (with or without backrest) invite to a short rest in a hall, a hotel lounge or a library for example. A metal pole with a black lampshade is fixed to the armrest. Beyond its functionality, it contributes to define an intimate sphere and introduces a warm domestic code in the rational typology of waiting rooms seating.

After the first Aesop London store, which opened in 2008 in Mount Street, Mayfair, Aesop’s group is pleased to have found a new outlet for their London clientele in Westbourne Grove, Notting Hill. Aesop’s group chosen to change little about this jewel-size store, respecting its classically understated elegance, inherent warmth and hearteningly abundant light. Their intention is to offer their range of skin, hair and body products in a space reminiscent of a welcoming drawing room. This store continues the Aesop tradition of including distinct design details that acknowledge the neighbourhood’s streetscape. In this instance, they nod to the nearby Portobello Road Market which provided them with fixtures and furnishings.
