Lille 3000 by Franklin Azzi Architecture

Not far from the mayor of Lille and its belfry, a former railway built in 1858  reopened its doors on March 14, 2009. Near Coffee Bugatti, opposite the Parc Jean-Baptiste Lebas, a shy brick gable wall has been covered with fluorescent tubes 90 cm long. They indicate: Gare Saint Sauveur.

Installed on an industrial wasteland of a few hectares, spreading to subway stations and Grand Palais Porte de Valenciennes, the location of the future cultural venue was the object of all covetousness. Intended for future development of the business district Euralille, the field finally returned to culture.

The Mairie de Lille in making this project a symbol of its cultural policy, alongside Martine Aubry, Didier Fusillier, also director of Lille 3000, beyond the dreams of success of the Tri Postal and houses Folie. He believes the Gare Saint-Sauveur must be “a meeting place where people can take the time to stop.” Multicultural, Lille wants to give its people the opportunity to invite where the hospitality is evident.

Now that’s some sound advice! Most often folks depend on power-naps, yoga and stretching to combat stress in office. Here’s a look at an innovative way that combines “active rest with physical stretching of the entire body.” Just flip around this extraordinary Vitra Whiteboard to indulge in an impromptu session of wall climbing. The awesomeness doesn’t end here; this “man-made, movable climbing wall” is meant for the entire office staff. Individual stats and levels for difficulty can be maintained coz the system hooks up to a comp.

Eyelid House by Fiona Winzar Architects

Fiona Winzar Architects transformed a typical victorian terrace home into a contemporary residence with an eye for sustainability. The Eyelid House is located in Melbourne, Australia and now houses a family of five in a tight city lot. Despite being nestled in a tight downtown location, the three-bedroom home has a very light filled interior. To add privacy, the architects created the roof extension that is shaped to mimic an eyelid, shielding the back façade from neighbours while still allowing light to enter. While the sharp angles of the extension are very modern, the clients also wanted to incorporate more decorative elements such as stained glass in a number of areas to keep the home relaxed. The materials used to build the new home were chosen to maximize sustainability and cost effectivness. In addition a rain water collection system was installed along with solar hot water and gas heating.
