Iceland’s Gorgeous Passive Solar Hof House

Deep in the northern chill of Iceland, just outside the arctic circle, the Hof House sits snugly within its landscape. Built on an existing estate, Studio Granada Architects salvaged whatever materials possible from the site to be incorporated into the new residence, converting telegraph poles into a sun screen and basalt pillars into stepping stones.

Kymyka Store, Maastricht – Netherlands

Lovely shoes and bags will literally be on pins and needles this Saturday, when the Kymyka shoes and bags boutique opens in Maastricht, the Netherlands. The beautiful store, established by Chantal Hermans and Jurgo Muthaan, begins its life with an impressive line-up of brands, including Dolce & Cabbana, Etro, Stella McCartney, Dsquared, YSL, Giuseppe Zanotti, Luciano Padovan and Theory. Jimmy Choo will join the list soon, as will other brands.

Rimini seascape by JDS architects

Julien de Smedt architects have designed a new seascape for the coastal town of Rimini, Italy. They have developed the project as an urban filmstrip, a linear sequence of urban frames all intertwined in a boardwalk of interior and exterior activities.

Real Modern I. – auction at Rago

Sollo Rago is an international leader in modern design, patronized by such great interior designers as Juan Montoya, Amy Lau and Alexander Gorlin. Each auction includes furnishings; ceramics, glass, and other decorative art; lighting and fine art. Sollo Rago champions studio work from craftsmen George Nakashima, Paul Evans and Wharton Esherick to ceramics by Gertrude and Otto Natzler and Peter Voulkos to metalwork by Albert Paley. It is also responsible for the resurgence of interest in furniture by interior designers including Tommi Parzinger, James Mont and Paul Laszlo. Much of the most important Modern design to come to auction has been sold by Sollo Rago.
